Operating Technician - Slot

Operate specialized railroad maintenance of way equipment known as the Slot Machine and/or Self Powered Slot (SPS). Unload this specialized aggregate delivery system or perform ditching, tie pick-up or rail pick-up for the Railroad under their direction with little or no supervision. Perform regular maintenance of equipment, trouble shoot problems, and make repairs as needed.
Essential Job Functions / Responsibilities:
Operate Caterpillar 318 excavator or equivalent with oversized clean-out bucket reversed.
Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance of equipment
Diagnose equipment failures and select method of repair
Perform mechanical adjustments solely or assist mechanic in performing repairs on assigned equipment
Dismantle, repair, and reassemble various components of equipment
Use typical mechanic and electrician tools and test equipment
Clean debris and lubricants from parts, work area, and equipment
Check and fuel vehicle and equipment
Complete routine paperwork as required
Conduct work according to standards set by the customer
Communicate with the customer
Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards
Send daily activity reports using Palm Pilot.
May be needed to assist with work in technical areas such as fabrication, assembly, welding, burning, cutting and pipefitting
May be required to occasionally perform work in other areas within the Company.
Knows and understands operation, maintenance, and repair of specialized components of a Cat 318 excavator or equivalent
Working knowledge of the hazards, safety precautions and operating limits of Cat 318 excavator or equivalent
Must have general knowledge and understanding of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems of Cat 318 excavator or equivalent
Knowledge of typical rail cars and their basic components a plus
Need to know how to use a computer
Knows and understands what it is to communicate with a customer
Skilled in the operation of heavy equipment
Ability to perform physical labor and heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions to accomplish goals
Ability to safely operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs on heavy equipment
Ability to rapidly locate nearest source of help as necessary with limited resources
Ability to read and write; to understand and carry out routine oral and written instructions
Ability to make independent judgments which have considerable impact on the organization
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the Customer
Ability to work in areas of different heights and must have good depth perception with good eye/hand coordination
High School diploma or GED Equivalent
Minimum of four (4) years experience with the use of heavy equipment
Possession of a valid state driver's license and be insurable by the Company insurance carrier
Regularly work in outside weather conditions - including extreme heat or cold
Work near moving mechanical parts and frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration
Frequently work in high, precarious places and occasionally exposed to fumes and airborne particles and possible risks of electrical shock
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud
Able to travel extensively and work a minimum of 21 days in a row.
Physical Demands:
Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms
Required to taste and smell in order to identify potential leaks, worn hoses, belts, etc.
Frequently required to sit, walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, talk and hear
Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds or equivalent
Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
Hearing is essential in this position
No relocation necessary.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
