JOB SUMMARY Benefits Supplemental Questions
The Youth Engagement Specialist / Juvenile Supervision Officer provides and ensures high-quality trauma-informed service delivery in all aspects of youth care through direct supervision and management of youth.
Understands, practices, and promotes the vision of Williamson County Juvenile Services.
Maintains daily focus on the department's service philosophy when interacting with youth, including emphasis on Developmental Assets, Developmental Relationships, SPARK identification, Motivational Interviewing, and Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI).
Makes intentional efforts to engage with youth throughout shift to develop relationships and meets youth's needs.
Supervises and redirects youth behavior, when necessary, using appropriate trauma-focused interventions.
Models positive behavior and leadership to youth on a daily basis.
Maintains a safe, clean living environment in the Secure Pre-Adjudication Juvenile Detention Center, Secure Post Adjudication Facility Program and the JJAEP.
Oversees the activities of residents in all areas of therapeutic programming, including all daily activities, including, but not limited: to education, arts and crafts, physical education, recreational, group activities, hygiene, housekeeping chores, meals, visitation, life skills, and treatment programs.
Conducts or coordinates social casework activities, i.e.: individual and group meetings or specialized programs.
Completes all necessary daily documentation reports including youth behavior and progress reports per assigned shift.
Performs intake, admission and release of a juvenile duties and completes all necessary paperwork.
Communicates through proper channels with internal and external customers including parents, outside providers and professionals, and other department personnel. This includes communicating pertinent information between and amongst shifts through proper channels.
Adheres to assigned Division i.e.: Secure Pre-Adjudication Juvenile Detention Center, Secure Post Adjudication Facility Programs (CORE) and/or the JJAEP and Juvenile Services Policy and Procedures at all times.
Attends meetings and training classes as required.
Maintains appropriate training and certification in accordance with departmental policy and procedures and Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) standards
Prevents or reduces the likelihood of escape through ability to control manipulative, aggressive, or violent behavior.
Exercises proper control of violent or aggressive behavior; Performs non-violent physical restraint techniques, crisis intervention verbal skills, and non-hostile management of aggressive behavior, as required.
Operates departmental vehicles and personal automobile to transport juveniles as needed. Occasional use of personal automobile.
Ensures effective and safe use of mechanical restraint devices as needed.
Assists with transportation as a passenger when necessary.
Readily complies with departmental and county-wide policies and procedures.
Performs related special projects as assigned.
The physical demands and environmental factors listed below, as well as regular attendance, are also essential functions for this position.
Exercise proper control of violent or aggressive behavior.
Ability to perform non-violent physical restraint techniques, crisis intervention verbal skills, and non-hostile management of aggressive behavior, as required.
Operate departmental vehicles and personal automobile to transport juveniles, as needed, as well as the ability to effectively and safety use mechanical restraint devices, as needed.
Position involved prolonged writing, sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, pushing & pulling of heavy doors, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities.
Youth Engagement Specialists/JSOs, as dictated by the population needs in the Facility, may be assigned to supervise juveniles in any program in the facility: Secure Pre-Adjudication Juvenile Detention Center, Secure Post Adjudication Facility (CORE) Program, Academy and/or the JJAEP students.
Maximum-security facility with locked, steel doors.
Contact with persons accused or adjudicated of crimes, students court ordered or expelled to the JJAEP Program.
Work around youth in all kinds of activities, including showering, recreation, eating, sleeping, etc.
Work is primarily indoors in an air-conditioned, smoke free office.
Exposure to cleaning products and dusty environment.
May work outside in inclement weather, including extreme heat, cold and wet conditions.
Williamson County has adopted a Tobacco-Free Workplace policy. This policy prohibits smoking or use of any tobacco product on Williamson County premises. Smoking cessation program is offered free to employees and spouses through Williamson County & Cities Health District.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Meet requirements for and maintain certification in the following requirements/certification: TJJD Certified Juvenile Supervision Officer, CPR/First Aid, and Non-Violent Physical Restraint Techniques.
Texas Administrative Code: RULE ?344.200: be at least 21 years of age
Be of good moral character.
Have non-disqualifying Child Abuse Registry check in accordance with PREA (28 CFR, Chapter 1, D)
Emotionally mature & able to deal with aggressive behavior in a controlled, responsible manner.
Ability to work well with others.
Maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
Obtain a valid Texas driver's license.
Employment is contingent on passing post-offer, pre-employment physicals, drug testing, criminal background investigations, child abuse registry checks, and motor vehicle record reports.
Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university in the Criminal Justice or Behavioral Science field.
Direct (juvenile age population) child-care related work experience in a Secure Pre-Adjudication Juvenile Detention Center, Secure or Non-Secure Post Juvenile Adjudication Facility and or a JJAEP Program.
Experience working with aggressive youth, youth with mental health diagnoses, and youth with sexual behavior problems.
Work any shift / schedule assigned by the Director or designee.
Essential Personnel for Emergency Situations; at the discretion of the Department Director.
Reports directly to the Shift Supervisor on duty.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
